I'm impressed with the consistency in which my public library has been using Twitter to keep locals up to date on offerings, services and meetings.
Local/public services can leverage social networking to connect with citizens. But to do so they must keep at it and keep the content fresh and relative. A quick search on Twitter for public libraries showed many creating Twitter accounts, only to post once or twice and abandoning.
Kudo's to CPL!
Funny you should bring this up. I was just reviewing museums that are embracing Twitter and Facebook... there sure are a lot of them who start with good intentions and then fade quickly.
